A Mended Heart

During January . . . . for some unknown reason . . . . I was obsessed with making, embellishing and embroidering little hearts. In light of what was to come, I can't help but think that my obsession was a premonition of things to come.

My darling husband went into the hospital two weeks ago for an Angiogram, and underwent an emergency triple by-pass surgery the following day. Many anxious days followed, filled with surgical teams, assessments, more procedures and finally, surgery for a pacemaker / defibrillator.

Apparently, God has very special plans for my man . . . one of the surgeons told me that my husband could been talking to me one moment and could have dropped dead the next. Happily, the "patient" is home from the hospital and has begun his healing journey.

Along the way, we've been blessed with an awesome cardiac team and were surrounded by the sustaining power of much love♥ and many prayers from family and friends. Many of you have followed our journey on FaceBook, and I thank you for your love and support.

Many times I wrapped your love around me and felt your virtual "hugs". You lifted me, carried me and supported me through some very dark hours. I am grateful. We still have a long road of healing and changes to follow, but we've made it through a very long, dark and scary tunnel.

Over the next few weeks art and blogging time will be put on "hold" while I nurse my darling back to health. Please remember that love ♥ is the only legacy that we leave behind!

Heart Strings!

Heart Strings♥ 

It all started innocently with a pattern for a tiny crocheted heart and the rediscovery of my crochet hook. (My beloved grandmother taught me to crochet when I was nine!) Before I knew it, I had a stack of handmade hearts begging for more creativity.

My first little valentine was made of red yarn and embellished with blue fibers, a bit of stamped silk and glass beads. Happy with that experiment, I crocheted my second heart . . . . this time, an orange one trimmed in fuzzy, green yarn.

In the process, I remembered what it was like to "play" with materials. I began to enjoy the gift of unrestrained and unrestricted creativity. Last year I'd focused on journals, this year will be a year of play and exploration into the world of fabrics and fiber art.

Frankly, I'm sailing into uncharted creative waters, and it's a little unsettling. Journaling and playing with images is so familiar. However, I'm remaining steadfast in my resolution to explore, and - most of all - to have fun in 2012. Somewhere in my past artistic life, I'd gotten caught up in self-imposed expectations and deadlines and totally forgot that making art should be fun♥ .

And so, I played with my stack of colorful little hearts to My "♥'s content". When I was finished, I strung the little valentines on recycled sari ribbon, and hung my "heart strings" garland on the mirror in my kitchen as a reminder to enjoy my new creative journey.

A Few Snippets

Over the last few months, very little time has been devoted to my art - holiday celebrations, family, obligations and life have taken precedence. In my quiet moments I've been contemplating the creative direction that I'd like to take in 2012.

2011 was a satisfying year filled with many art swaps and exchanges and a variety of art journals. I was thrilled to see my work published in a few Somerset publications too.

This year will be a year filled with exploration and discovery. My heart is leading me away from "paper" and is directing me toward working with fabrics and fibers. I won't be putting my brushes and glue sticks into hibernation . . . I'll be using my trusty tools to create new artwork that can be translated into fabric.

I've also decided to limit my computer time . . . Less time in the Matrix, means more creative time in my studio. If you see fewer posts and visits, it's not that I'm not around or lurking, it's just that I'm busy following new paths.

2012 will be a year filled with new directions and new growth. My Muse is speaking, and I must listen.

Believe me when I say that her video is as beautiful as the finished journal page! Thank you for sharing your talents and time, Roc! What a pleasure to watch you create!

My second "share" is a recent Etsy purchase from Terry Lischka (SewMuchStyle). Santa was generous and brought an IPad2 this year, so I wanted to protect it in style. Terry uses recycled suit coats to create her unique cases.

After working on this project for an entire year and writing one little "inchie" at a time, those tiny squares have become journal that's become very personal and dear to my heart♥. Almost a year ago I sat at my worktable and looked at the new blank journal I'd made for my calender project, and wondered what the coming year would bring: What dreams would come true? What goals would I meet? Would I stay true to the commitment of journaling a bit every day?

It's almost too difficult to believe how quickly 2011 has flown by and that Christmas is only a few short weeks away. Since these last few days of the year will be filled with a flurry of activity, I'll be posting a little less frequently, but I will definitely finish my last calendar page.

I'm sure it will be filled with lots of Holiday chores, errands and activities (as will yours) . . . my Christmas "To Do List" is long and there aren't any elves in sight!

A Celebration!

An Birthday Celebration

Over Thanksgiving weekend our family assembled for a double celebration. Not only were we celebrating the Thanksgiving Holiday, but since it's the one time of the year when the entire family is together, we threw an early surprise birthday party for my husband. He won't turn the BIG "70" until December, but that number certainly deserves a special celebration. (And, yes! He robbed the cradle when we married! LOL!)

In addition to making the lollipop centerpiece, I rummaged through dusty boxes and old albums of family photos and surreptitiously scanned and uploaded them (whenever he was out and about) to create a slideshow of his life that was shown at the party.

The Birthday Boy!

Now you know why I've been a bit absent lately. Throwing the party required a lot of time away from my regular computer activity and art schedule, but it was worth all of the effort when the Birthday Boy walked into our oldest son's house and was greeted with: "Surprise! Happy Birthday!" And the best part is . . . . (miracle of miracles!) the man never suspected a thing!

A Bit of Gratitude

By the way, I am very grateful to Lee @ The Way I see It for her generosity and kindness. Lee discovered a few blogs that she thought were visit-worthy, and was dismayed at the fact that although the blogs and the artists were awesome, no one had taken the time to leave any comments. Despite her busy work schedule, Lee did a very generous thing. She decided to do a giveaway for anyone who visited and left comments on those fabulous blogs. Wonderful people DO inhabit this earth!

Also, my heartfelt gratitude to Beth Niquette @ Beth's Artworx Beth's blog post on Tuesday featured the journal page in my previous post. On Tuesday's, Beth generously writes about and showcases artists who's work she finds particularly inspiring. Her blog post also provides a forum for all artists of all mediums to share their work with one another.

I'm also grateful to everyone who's been visiting here and to everyone who leaves a comment - no matter how small. My personal life has been a bit crazy over the past few weeks, and my blog visits have sadly fallen by the wayside. My spare time has been spent on planning a surprise birthday party for my husband over Thanksgiving weekend. (Shhhhh! It's a secret!) I am truly blessed and thankful for my dear Blogland friends!

How would you answer this question: If you could be any creature what would it be? It's a v-e-r-y interesting question which prompted a lot of thought. It's a question that was asked in my art group this month, and a question that could be answered 100 different ways.

For a short time I entertained the idea of being either a butterfly or a beautiful, mystical Unicorn. But all along, thoughts of being a dog were always strong. Who knows? Maybe in my next life I'll be reincarnated as a sweet little pooch!

A very loving and belated "Thank You" to Geri Centonze @ My Heart Art. A few weeks ago (during the infamous snowstorm and resulting power outage), Geri gave me this awesome award. I'm supposed to tell you seven things about myself that you might not know, and then I'm supposed to pass the award along to 15 bloggers who I think are deserving of this award.

However, there are so many wonderful blogging sisters in my world, I can't choose only 15. Rule breaker that I am, I'll pass on that rule, but I will reveal a few things about myself.

I need coffee - and plenty of it - to start my day.
Admittedly, I'm hooked on watching romantic comedies and love TV shows that make me laugh. (I'm a huge Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts fan!)
"Memoirs of a Geisha" is one of my favorite reads, along with "Jayne Eyre".
Obviously, I'm a h-u-g-e romantic!
I've been known to put chocolates on my husband's pillow at night so he can have sweet dreams.
Doing small, random acts of kindness makes my heart sing. I love seeing someone smile!
Lately I've been giving a lot of thought about my art and what direction I should be heading in.
I know - I know! The award said to tell you seven things, but I told you that I was a rule breaker! LOL! My bonus reveal is I have a secret crush on George Clooney!!! (But who doesn't?!?)

Fall Calendars - Finally!

You're looking at a journal spread that was created by candlelight! When I printed my images earlier in the week, little did I know that we'd lose our electricity for five days. No art for almost a week??? No Way!

If our fore mother's could do it, so could I! I sat at my kitchen table cutting and pasting by candlelight until my poor hands were numb with cold. When our power returned, I finally had an opportunity to finish my spread. There's certainly a lot to be thankful for lately!

Thought you might like to see my "finished" October spread too! I'm so happy that this spread is colorful and fun. There were no treats in our neighborhood this year because we'd been "tricked" by Mother Nature with that unexpected snowstorm!

Powerless!!!

It all began with

 a few snowflakes . . .

How do I begin to tell you about our week? It started innocently enough with just a sprinkle of snowflakes on some fallen leaves and our Halloween pumpkin. Within a few hours, however, we were living in a winter wonderland!

The gentle snowfall rapidly became a terrible snow squall. When the storm ended 24 hours later, we were blanketed with 12+ inches of wet, heavy snow. Downed branches and broken tree limbs dotted the landscape and ripped power lines apart. Within hours we were left in the dark along with approximately 1/2 million other people in our area.

Fortunately, we sustained minimal property damage. We did have a fireplace to keep us warm, plenty of candles, water, hot water (believe it or not!), down blankets, and - most importantly - a cell phone. Our camping experience ended yesterday when the power popped back on. We're very fortunate - many people are still powerless almost an entire week later.

Needless to say, there's been no blogging, no new posts, no new art, etc., but I have several pieces in the works. I'll share them with you soon, but will use the next few days to regroup. I've missed everyone so much - It's good to be back in Blogland!

A Life Lesson . . .

In my estimation, "Love" is the most important lesson of all . . . . not only to love and accept yourself, but also to demonstrate your love by word and deed to everyone around you.

My Studio

Welcome to my studio!

This past weekend, I finally caved in and decided to ~~shovel~~ clean-up my very cluttered studio space. I work in a tiny spare bedroom, and after realizing that I only had a 12"x12" space left on my worktable, I thought I'd better start organizing before I worked myself out of my little art room. The clutter was definitely hampering my creativity.

While everything was clean and (for me) uncluttered and organized, I thought I'd take a few pictures and share my creative space with you.

I've tried to take advantage of the space I have by going "vertical" with good, commercial shelving, and thank goodness for the closet in back of my desk. It hides a lot of sins!

I'm loving my "new space", but I wonder how long this clean-up will last??? :)

Portland, Maine - September 2011

Welcome to Portland, Maine

As promised, here's a slideshow of the pictures that I took in Portland, Maine when we were on vacation a few weeks ago. Portland is a very old port city; and the day we were there, the "Queen Elizabeth II" was docked. If you look closely at the first few slides, you'll see cobblestone streets. These streets were constructed hundreds of years ago with the rocks that were used as ballast from incoming cargo ships.

Portland boasts lovely architecture (You'll see a lot of granite!), and has become quite a tourist destination. It is a healthy, thriving seaport that supports many arts. Hope you enjoy my virtual tour!

Guilty!

Guilty Pleasure!

I'm guilty! As a matter of fact I'm very guilty and very proud that I played hookey today!

I should've done a lot of things on my very long "To Do" list today. Instead, I took advantage of this gorgeous Indian Summer day (temperatures were in the 80's) to go on an outing with my husband to Skylands, New Jersey's Botanical Garden in Ringwood.

I should've written my blog post yesterday, paid some bills today or washed the dog. Instead, I enjoyed a nice, cold dish of frozen yogurt after our walk through the park. I must admit . . . guilt feels wonderful!

So much to enjoy: The smell of wood smoke wafting through a crisp evening's breeze . . . . apple picking and pie baking . . . . cozying up with a good book and an extra blanket at night . . . . carving pumpkins . . . . and all of the gorgeous color provided by Mother Nature makes my heart sing with delight.

Back in Blogland!

A Tour

Vacation was full of family, fun and sunshine. After spending an evening in Portsmouth, NH, we enjoyed a day in Portland, ME before traveling to our daughter's home in Brunswick, ME. We had more fun in Cape Cod and took a ferry trip to Nantucket Island before heading home. It was one of the best vacations we've had in years and an awesome way to spend my Birthday week!

My birthday gift from my husband, a Nikon S9100, got a workout. (It was much easier to carry along than my DSLR). There are way too many pictures to post all at once (and I know you're busy), so I thought I'd assemble a few, quick slide shows over the next few weeks to share a bit of my vacation with you.

Today's slideshow features Portsmouth, NH - one of my favorite New England towns. I've tried to capture its charm by incorporating a bit of architecture, some window shopping and street art - always one of my favorite surprises.

Birthday Road Trip!

A Lobster Fairy!

We're leaving today to drive to our daughter's home in Maine to celebrate our oldest grandson's 17th birthday, and mine, this weekend. It's become a family tradition to celebrate our mutual birthday whenever we can. We were born on exactly the same day, and Conner was the absolute best Birthday gift ever!

There's something about being around teenagers that I find particularly energizing, and our daughter's home is filled with joy, love, three teenagers and their assorted friends. It'll be a busy and fun weekend.

After all of the weekend's excitement, we'll head to Cape Cod for a few days of rest and relaxation. Since Inet service will be hit or miss, I won't be posting and my Etsy shop will be closed until we return on or about October 3rd. However, I will definitely try to make some long-overdue blog visits ( when I have service). After all, I can't break away from The Matrix completely!

Gratitude Journal

With all of the bad news and bad weather in the world, not to mention flooding, economic downturns and illnesses, I decided that it was a good time to count my blessings - no matter how small or inconsequential. A Moleskine journal (3 1/2"x5 1/2") on my shelf seemed to be waiting for a special project - a gratitude journal. So on a quiet August afternoon, I gessoed all of the pages in preparation for my backgrounds, images and journaling.

Printed Gift Bags

Every once in a while an idea comes along that's just so wonderful, you can't wait to share it with your friends.

I'm always on the lookout for a clever (and I must admit - easy) way to wrap a gift. I do believe that presentation is all! This very shabby chic wrap began as a plain, brown lunch bag. All you need to recreate the look are some pretty images (I used the ones from the Graphics Fairy), an inkjet printer, a hole punch, scalloped scissors (optional) and some pretty ribbon or fibers.

Of course, you'll need the tutorial too, so you don't screw up your printer. Twig & Thistle used these bags to present Valentine's brownies, and she's done an awesome tutorial that I found while blog hopping one day. Click here to go there.

Hope you have a lot of fun with this idea. Why not use them for Halloween goodies? With baking and gift-giving season on the horizon, I'll have to add more bags to my grocery list this week to replenish my supply!

This month's journal prompt asked us to create a journal page or spread that answers the question: "What quote moves you in your everyday life?" Needless to say, there are quite a few quotes that run though my mind during the course of a day.

The only quote that I find myself repeating - almost as though it's a mantra - is "the power of one". I'm always amazed at the difference that can be made with one solitary step, one act of kindness or one decision. The list is endless, and the results are always mind boggling. Just think of what can be accomplished by thinking one happy thought!

Back in the Spring, I received an email from an editor at "Somerset Apprentice" asking if I would be interested in publishing a journal page that I'd created in a 6"x6" format. Of course! I was surprised and flattered - I couldn't type an acceptance email fast enough! Without giving too much away, here's just a tiny bit of the finished piece that was published in the current issue.

Always Remember

There are many stories associated with 9/11. It is a day filled with many tears, terrible loss and lasting memories. The days immediately following the attack were filled with shock, disbelief and sadness. Yet they were also filled with hope, unity, pride and patriotism.

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of that fateful day. Please take a moment and offer a silent prayer for those who were taken from us, for their families and friends and for our Country. Many blessings too, on all who protect and defend this great Country and our leaders.

Iphone Photos & A Freebie

Photography is my second love, and although I can't always carry my DSLR or my pocket camera, I always have my Iphone close at hand. It's taken a bit of time to learn how to play with some of my photo apps, but sometimes I'm very pleased with the results. For the record, all of the pictures in this post were taken with my Iphone.

Admittedly, I'm the crazy lady who absentmindedly leaves her cart in the middle of an aisle at a big box store in a rush to snap a picture when I spy something that catches my artistic eye. It doesn't matter if it's fruit or flowers. If it's colorful enough to capture my attention it's camera worthy.

Restaurants are another source of inspiration. Using my camera phone has become so second nature to me, my sweet husband doesn't move or question me when I say, "Ohhhh! Wait a minute!" as our food arrives.

And then there's always the unexpected . . . . I love the unexpected!!! I spied this bumper sticker in a parking lot recently. Thank goodness I had my cell phone at the ready, and thank goodness that my son was with me to play 'lookout' as I snapped this great quote (otherwise, I'd have been road kill!).

The next time you see something that captures your creative fancy, snap a photo with your mobile phone. It's easy and fun . . . . and . . . it just may become addictive!

Miscellaneous Stuff!

FYI - You may have noticed that the "Artsee Bloggers" button is missing from my sidebar. For many personal reasons, Geri Centzone (My Heart Art), decided to close the site on August 31st. Because of Geri and her generosity, many of us made new friends and contacts. Thank you, Geri. Many blessings and prayers are heading your way.

We'll be celebrating Labor Day on Monday, September 5 here in the States and are getting ready to enjoy a three-day weekend. Labor Day marks the unofficial end of vacation time and summer. I'll be enjoying some family time, and will post again on Monday evening.

We're nearing the end of August, and I realized that I hadn't posted the journal page for my art group's journal prompt: Describe yourself in three words. Once again, another interesting prompt!

How DO you describe yourself in three words? Where do you begin? I began by asking my family to describe my traits in three words. The first words that came to everyone's lips were "loving", "generous" and "talented". Then the fun started as they began a laundry list of my character flaws . . . laughing and telling tales as only a loving family can do. ((Sigh!!))

Back to the drawing board for me!!! I've always identified with my Mini-Schnauzer's personalities. Terriers are loyal, curious, spirited and fun. They love life, as do I. Perfect!!!

A Few Announcements!

Irene 

Over the past 24 hours, I've received quite a few emails concerning Hurricane Irene's visit to our area. The storm went through; however, we - as well as our family and friends - are all safe and sound. It got a bit noisy last night, but we'd taken tons of precautions and were well prepared. We did lose our power for 12+ hours, but our house and the surrounding trees are all standing. The Angels of Protection did their jobs well! Thank you, thank you for your prayers and concern.

Holy Cow!

Holy Cow!

I have 500+ followers!

When I first started writing my blog posts many moons ago, I never ever dreamed of where this wonderful journey would take me. Imagine my delight and surprise when I saw that I've reached a Blogland milestone: I now have over 500 followers!!! Whoo-Hoo!!!

This is definitely cause for a celebration, and I'm planning to celebrate by posting a nice giveaway at the end of the week. Thank you, Thank You, Thank YOU for your loyalty, encouragement and support. You make my heart sing!

A 3"x5" Index Card

When I created this addition to my "Index Card A Day (ICAD) Journal" a few days ago, I must have had this coming weekend's celebration in subconscious mind. Our smallest granddaughter will celebrate her 5th Birthday on Saturday.

Grandpa and I went shopping for Unicorns last weekend and had a successful hunt. We filled the birthday girl's box with captured, purple beasts and added a few glow-in-the-dark magic wands and mermaids for good measure. What a magical age!

A Special Gift, A Freebie & An Announcement

 "Sing" Pillow

The very first question that I think you'll ask is when you see this little pillow will be: "Did you make this with your new sewing machine?" The answer is, "No!" But somewhere during the creative process, I DID make the decision to purchase my new one. I kept thinking about what I could do "if only" I had more decorative stitches, and "if only" I could trim this or that with a fancier stitch.

Lately I've had a lot of ideas about translating my art to fabric, and this small art pillow is the result of one of those ideas. The central image was actually created for and used in one of my journal pages.

Now that it's safely in the hands of the Birthday Girl, I can finally share the result of one of my new artistic paths. Although my stitch patterns were limited, I'm happy with the results and am glad that I took a creative risk. Most of all, I'm happy that the recipient was very pleased with her gift.

A Freebie

You're probably a bit curious about the original image, so here it is - a "freebie" for your creative pleasure. Before sewing him onto the blue and white ticking, I sized him in an image editing program and then printed him onto an ink-jet fabric. I just know that you'll have a wonderful use for him. Enjoy!

An Announcement

When it comes to placing lettering on my finished journal pages, I must admit that I sometimes feel a bit apprehensive. I'm insecure about my lettering skills and am afraid about putting pen to paper in the fear that I'll muck up my page. This journal page, expressing my lettering fears, was created almost two years ago!

My super talented friend, Michelle (Lost Coast Post), has posted an awesome 5-part lettering tutorial on her blog. Her series began on July 13th and concluded on Friday, July 22. (Click here to read the first tutorial.) Michelle's entire series is amazing, but I particularly enjoyed #2 and #5. If you'd like to learn more about lettering, it's well worth the time to stop by. My New Toy!

My New Machine!

After 15 years of long and faithful service, the time had come to say goodbye to my old sewing machine. With so many different makes, models and features available on today's market, it was difficult choosing a replacement.

After a lot of research (Special thanks to Google!), I narrowed my choice to two different machines -- both computerized and manufactured by Brother. The first sewing machine had 297 built-in stitches! Holy Cow! And the second machine had 67 stitches . . . . but . . . . it can embroider and has a USB port to download embroidery and applique patterns. After sewing with only six built-in stitches, anything was an improvement!

I am now the proud owner of the 2nd machine, a Brother SE-400, and after sewing with a very basic Singer, I'm in LOVE. My new machine threads its own needle, stops when the thread breaks, has a clear bobbin cover, etc., etc. It's jam packed with nifty features, and I've been busy re-learning how to sew and can't wait to embroider.

I've been wanting to take my art in new directions, and my Muse has been whispering (sometimes shouting) tons of creative ideas. Now I've got the perfect tool to start new art journeys. I can't wait to start exploring!!! And, by the way, my old machine is going to my grand daughter, who can't wait to give it a new home and begin creative journeys of her own!

More ICAD Journal Pages

A few more June journal pages created from 3"x5" index cards. Tammy's Index Card A Day Challenge is running through the end of August, so there's still time to participate. It's amazing how doing just a bit of art each day brightens my spirit.

It's actually surprising how well these little cards tolerate different mediums, and it seems like I've given most of them a try . . . .inks, watercolor pencils, Prismacolor pencils, acrylic paints and oil pastels (to name a few).

To see some of the details, you can enlarge the entire blog by holding down the "CTRL" key on your keyboard and press the + key. When you're as sight-challenged as I am, it's nice to have the ability to to 'zoom in'! LOL!

This month's journal prompt posed a very thought provoking question: "If you had three wishes, what would they be?" Decisions, decisions. I wavered between choosing "world peace" and wishing that I had my body of 30 years ago coupled with the brains and knowledge that I have now. Tough choice! LOL!!!

Of course, when all was said and done, honesty and my true heart's desires won out over vanity.

May all of your wishes come true!

As promised, here are a few more journal pages that were created on simple index cards for the ICAD summer project hosted by Tammy at Daisy Yellow. Once again, I'm finding that doing just a small piece of art each day is satisfying my creative soul.

On a side note . . . an amazing thing has been happening as this journal is progressing. I've noticed that my style seems to be changing a bit and, I've been more willing to experiment with new journaling techniques.

I had no idea when I started this project that creative freedom would present itself in the form of a 3"x5" card. They're small and inexpensive, and I've actually given myself permission to draw, doodle and play. It's a good thing!

 Half Way Thru 2011!

As I began to work on this month's spread, I couldn't quite believe that I've been faithfully committed to writing, doodling or drawing in this journal every day for the past six months. Way back in January, the prospect of filling my blank journal with a year's activities seemed very daunting and a bit intimidating.

Every morning I sit down with my cup of coffee and fill in one tiny "inchie" with something that happened the day before, and it's now a pleasant routine. It doesn't matter if it's boring, exciting, fun or unexpected. Recording a day's events has now become something that I truly enjoy.

All of these backgrounds were created on 3"x5" index cards for the ICAD challenge and were scanned at 300 dpi. They were painted with acrylics and watercolors, sprayed with ink and a few were stamped with Stazon ink. Right click on your mouse to save each one, and then print and use them in your personal art. Feel free to add your own special touches either digitally or manually. Enjoy!

Index-Card-A-Day Challenge

Last month Tammy from Daisy Yellow-Art Journaling posted an interesting challenge. The premise is to create, draw, doodle, write, collage something on a simple index card. Creativity was encouraged.

The challenge: Do it every day during the months of June, July and August for a total of approximately 90 art cards.

Index cards are small, and - believe it or not - fairly durable. The challenge seemed interesting, so I decided to participate.

Although I haven't been entirely faithful to the "one card a day" commitment, I've been fairly consistent and have skipped only a few days. To be honest, sometimes I'll prepare a few backgrounds ahead of time so that I can create a tiny page when I have just a few "art minutes" to spare.

These are a some of the mini-art journal pages (warts and all) that I've created for Tammy's challenge. They're quick and fun, and I'll be posting more index cards as the summer progresses.

Gift Card Envelopes - Part 2

In one of my earlier posts, I showed you a few gift card envelopes that I created by using recycled cardboard sleeves. Since I depleted my coffee sleeve inventory and needed a few more of these handy envies for June gifts, I looked around my little studio to find a suitable substitute.

When I found a stash of empty toilet paper rolls, the proverbial 'light bulb' clicked into the 'on' position. I measured them to see if my gift cards would fit, and . . . . voila . . . .they were perfect!

Instead of gessoing and painting the cardboard tubes, I used matte medium for glue and covered them with copies of some of my art journal background pages. I sewed three edges with metallic copper thread, added fibers, a few pretty paper beads that I received in a recent swap, and a Shrinky Dink charm made from my artwork.

Once again, I was pleased with the results and the price was more than perfect!
